Karl Darlow has thrown away any positive success he enjoyed at Leeds United already.

The goalkeeper's contract officially expired at the end of June, making him a free agent.

With Illan Meslier also leaving Elland Road, the expectation was that Darlow would sign a new contract.

Leeds did offer the Welsh international just that, but it doesn't appear to have been enough.

Daniel Farke now only has Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns available.

That's because Darlow is now expected to join Manchester United, a move that nobody in LS11 will simply accept.

Why is Karl Darlow leaving Leeds?

Despite finally earning the number one spot at his own, Darlow is moving on to Old Trafford.

After Cairns signed new terms in LS11 on Friday, Graham Smyth reports that the Whites couldn't guarantee that spot again for Darlow.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist shared that's because of plans to sign another new goalkeeper this summer.

On top of that, the so-called "riches" on offer from Man United were likely said to have played a part.

Karl Darlow has simply left for the money

Realistically, he is going to play little to zero football at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick's men signed Senne Lammens last season, and he instantly became number one, and that isn't changing.

So, if that spot wasn't available at Leeds either, Darlow has gone where the more money is.

Why Karl Darlow is sacrificing more than just his club career after silly Leeds exit

Of course, football is a business, but at Elland Road, there are certain lines you don't cross.

With that in mind, Darlow won't be remembered fondly now after becoming the first goalkeeper to directly swap Leeds for Man United.

Now, all eyes will go to who Leeds are going to sign.

Zion Suzuki and James Trafford continue to be the two names most widely called for by fans, but the budget will determine who comes to Elland Road.

Losing Darlow isn't a huge blow if another keeper is signed alongside Perri and Cairns, but it's gutting to see players go directly to Old Trafford.

With Harry Wilson also joining the Welsh contingent in LS11, this move just gets stranger each time you look at it.

It's time to forget Darlow, Leeds are moving on.
