Three options to replace Joe Rodon as Daniel Farke shares Leeds injury timeframe

Leeds United defender Joe Rodon faces a considerable spell on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old is a key figure for Daniel Farke, but went off injured in the 1-1 draw with Brentford with a hamstring issue.

The boss has confirmed in his pre-Brighton press conference that the Welsh defender will be out for eight to 10 weeks.

That leaves him with a dilemma, as he needs to figure out the best option to replace such a senior player.

The Whites added two centre-backs in Tarik Muharemovic and Nico Elvedi, but they could also look to their Thorp Arch academy.

Nico Elvedi is the obvious option for Leeds

Elvedi is the obvious call for the Peacocks, as he is the exact same position as Rodon.

The Welshman is a right-footed defender, and the Swiss man is the same, so it could be a like-for-like swap.

He has bags of ability, as he has 73 caps for his country and plenty of experience in top leagues.

Elvedi has played 318 times in the Bundesliga, made 15 appearances in the Champions League and nine in the Europa League.

James Justin has already been mentioned by Farke

In the same media duties that he announced the timescale on Rodon's recovery, Farke also mentioned James Justin as a potential option.

He said: "It could be that we need James Justin in central defence now."

Justin has played 21 times in the position in his career in 278 career appearances, so he is not exactly unfamiliar there.

It is possible, as he will not have to cover at left-back anymore with Melvin Bard's arrival behind Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Jayden Lienou could be a wildcard option for Leeds

Academy defender Jayden Lienou could emerge as a contender for the first-time while Rodon is out.

The 18-year-old was regarded as a coup when he was picked up from Manchester City's youth system.

Lienou is a left-back who can also play centre-back, and he has already featured in matchday squads at the back end of last season.

He enjoyed a brilliant first year with the Under-21 side last time out, and signed a contract extension until 2029 in July.

It is surely only a matter of time before he makes the step up and Rodon's injury may provide him with the breakthrough moment, albeit unlikely now.
