Leeds United forward Lukas Nmecha has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Wrexham.

Daniel Farke's side signed the German on a free transfer last summer after his deal with Wolfsburg expired.

He notched seven goals in 37 Premier League appearances in his first season at Elland Road.

He is expected to be Dominic Calvert-Lewin's back-up in LS11, rather than forging a starting role.

The Peacocks are still in the mix for attacking additions, so there could be a chance for the 27-year-old to be sold.

MOT Leeds News looks at what the interest means for the Whites ahead of the new season.

Why Wrexham's Lukas Nmecha interest could be tempting for Leeds

The Championship promotion holders eyeing Nmecha gives the Yorkshire side a very interesting twist.

Simon Jones from the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that they are interested in an "ambitious" move for the striker.

They could make a significant profit on the man that they picked up for nothing.

That may prove too good an opportunity to ignore for the 49ers Enterprises group.

They will not have been planning to lose the attacker so close to the opening game, but they surely could be tempted if the Dragons make a suitable offer.

They have spent £16.6million so far on three players, an average sum of £5.53m.

They would need to go much higher to even get Leeds to the negotiating table, that's for sure.

Why selling Nmecha could be a bad decision for Leeds

There are many negatives to selling Nemcha.

The first one would be how close we are to the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest.

If Calvert-Lewin got injured, it would leave them without a senior recognised striker.

The first-choice man only missed three games last season, but his injury record before that is not the best.

The Peacocks would have to enter the market for a new back-up if the German was allowed to leave.

They have been linked with Ermedin Demirovic and Nicolo Tresoldi in recent weeks, and would have to make their move for one of those targets if the swoop was to materialise.

Whether it happens or not, remains to be seen, but it could create an interesting situation in the final knockings of the window.
