'Will command a high salary' – Phil Hay names Leeds number one striker target for January
Athletic journalist Phil Hay has said that Leeds have installed Southampton’s Che Adams as their number one striker target this January.
Jack Clarke has been recalled by Tottenham and it looks like Eddie Nketiah is set to follow suit, with Arsenal concerned about his lack of game time.
That means Leeds will need at least a new striker this January and Hay has said that the club has put the Southampton striker at the top of their list.
Writing in the Athletic, Hay said, “The club have taken an interest in Liverpool’s Rhiann Brewster but Liverpool are reluctant to see Brewster kick his heels in the way Nketiah has and do not see Elland Road as the best destination for him.
“The Athletic understands that Leeds have made Southampton’s Che Adams their number one target, despite Adams starting for Southampton as recently as Boxing Day.”
Hay went on to say that Adams “will command a high salary” but added that finances had been helped ay Leeds by the high-profile FA Cup tie against Arsenal in January.

Wages for Clarke and Nketiah would also be taken off the books and that would free up cash to make a significant signing.
Paul Robinson told MOT Leeds News earlier that Adams would be the perfect signing for Leeds and that he is the player they need to go up.
“Someone like Che Adams, who knows the Championship, who can score goals in the Championship is exactly who Leeds need to go up,” Roinson said.
He would certainly be an exciting addition. While he’s struggled in the Premier League, he scored 22 goals in 46 Championship games for Birmingham last season.
It would give Marcelo Bielsa two premium strikers to choose from and Adams would be fierce competition for Bamford.
