Leeds United were "doing everything" to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk.

The 25-year-old is now free to play again after serving his suspension under the FA's anti-doping rules.

He was strongly linked with a move to Leeds throughout the summer, as Daniel Farke looked for more forward depth.

Ultimately, the Ukrainian would complete a deadline day switch to Tottenham from Chelsea instead.

And Leeds won't be thrilled as to why he's ended up in N17 over LS11.

Why were Leeds Mykhailo Mudryk's priority?

Speaking to BBC Sport West Yorkshire on Tuesday evening, reporter Nizaar Kinsella revealed the ins and outs of Leeds' summer-long pursuit of Mudryk.

"Certainly for a long time, Leeds were winning the race (to sign Mudryk), certainly in the mind of Mykhailo Mudryk anyway," Kinsella said.

"He was super excited about joining Leeds. It was a great platform for him.

"Leeds did everything. I don't think that you will get anyone on, I shouldn't think on Chelsea's side either but certainly not on Mudryk's side, who thought Leeds weren't doing everything.

"Offering him a great spot in the squad, negotiating really hard with Chelsea, who were trying to make it an expensive loan to be fair to Leeds."

So, why was it then that Mudryk ended up a Tottenham player and not a Leeds one?

Leeds won't believe Chelsea's reason for Mudryk's Elland Road snub

It's no secret to anyone that Leeds and Chelsea don't get along.

However, the same can very much be said for the Blues and their London rivals Tottenham, who seldom ever do business with one another.

But according to Kinsella, Chelsea actually preferred to send him to Spurs over West Yorkshire.

"Leeds were doing everything within reason without going overboard to try and get this deal done," he continued.

"Unfortunately, I think that Chelsea wanted to business more with Tottenham.

"So I don't think it was actually that much Mudryk who didn't want to go to Leeds, I think it was more Chelsea preferred Mudryk went to Tottenham."
