Why Michele Di Gregorio could be the perfect Leeds back-up as agent flies into England

Leeds United will still be in the goalkeeper market following James Trafford's arrival.

Lucas Perri looks almost certain to depart with Torino holding out to sign the Brazilian on loan.

That deal has stalled temporarily as the Serie A side await for the shot-stopper to recover from a short-term injury.

His departure would then leave the Whites with just two senior goalkeepers, one of whom is Alex Cairns.

The veteran has not played over the last few years, with zero professional appearances for Daniel Farke's side.

So, the German will want a solid back-up to Trafford, and target Michele Di Gregorio could be that man with his agent flying into England.

Why was Michele Di Gregorio's agent in England?

Di Gregorio looks to be falling down the pecking order at Juventus, as they seek to sign a goalkeeper themselves this window.

That has led to the Italian looking for a way out and seeking an adventure elsewhere.

Previously, Leeds were said to be an option for Di Gregorio although it was mentioned he preferred to remain at Juventus.

But things have seemingly shifted in that regard with Calciomercato reporting his agent Carlo Alberto Belloni was recently in England to explore the chance of a Premier League move.

Of course with Leeds among those interested, they could be a side that looks to swoop for a deal.

After all, they are in desperate need of another goalkeeper.

The report also shares that while he is valued at around £12.8million, a loan with an obligation could be agreed.

Would Di Gregorio want to move to Leeds?

While Di Gregorio would come into Leeds as Farke's number two, that may be a role he is willing to fill.

It was stated in the original links that his preference was to fight for his spot at Juventus.

And at Leeds, he would be put into the exact same position, while getting the chance to experience a new league.

He would at least get the chance to play in the cup games, while waiting in the wings should Trafford pick up any injury or suspension.

The idea of a switch is certainly on his mind amid his agents' efforts to try to seal a deal to the English top flight.

Although it does remain to be seen if Leeds were part of those exploratory talks with Di Gregorio's representative.

But his experience and notoriety could make him the perfect choice for back-up if he is willing to play that role.
