Leeds United are close to making Michael Zetterer their next number two goalkeeper.

Links to the Bundesliga shot-stopper have been emerging over the last few days but those efforts now seem to be stepping up.

The Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper had looked to remain with the German side this season.

As things stand, Lucas Perri's exit has yet to be confirmed but all signs point to the Brazilian joining Torino this summer.

And that would leave Daniel Farke's lacking in a second-choice goalkeeper among the squad.

What Leeds need to happen to sign Michael Zetterer

Zetterer to Leeds United is moving closer to happening this summer.

According to The Athletic on Thursday evening, the Whites need a few dominoes to fall but they are close to reaching an agreement in principle with the Bundesliga side over the 31-year-old.

The transfer, however, is related to both goalkeeper departments at Elland Road.

The report shares that Elland Road sources "expect Frankfurt would need to secure a new goalkeeper of their own".

The German's arrival in West Yorkshire would also allow Perri's move to go through as well.

Why Zetterer would be positive dressing room influence for Leeds

The role of number two can be tough, but Zetterer has all the experience to make his presence in the dressing room valuable.

Often, due to a lack of playing time, those playing deputy have to try to contribute in other ways.

And there is no doubt the German would be able to do so at Elland Road.

Zetterer has had to endure many hurdles in his career, as shared by The Athletic.

He missed almost two years of football due to hand and wrist injuries while at Werder Bremen.

But after proving himself in multiple loan spells, he managed to push his way back and eventually become number one at the Bremen-based side.

It's the type of resilience that he can use to help other members of the squad try to push their way back after facing their own hurdles.

Additionally, Zetterer's personality is said to be a significant bonus as well, with it said he is a player people like having in the dressing room.

So, while minutes will be few and far between for Zetterer, he would still be an important figure around Thorp Arch and Elland Road.
