Why Leeds United may already have advantage in Michele Di Gregorio transfer pursuit
Leeds United's hunt for a new goalkeeper is sure to take plenty of twists and turns over the coming weeks.
It is by far the most pressing issue facing the Elland Road side following Karl Darlow's exit.
Trust in Brazilian Lucas Perri is sure to be low following a disappointing first season in LS11 last campaign.
While Alex Cairns has barely played first-team football over the last two years, as expected.
Daniel Farke is likely to be unhappy with his current options, and with Darlow's exit official, it does mean a goalkeeper must be signed.
And MOT Leeds News has reported on Leeds' interest in Michele Di Gregorio, with him potentially being an option.
What has Michele Di Gregorio's agent said about the Premier League?
Di Gregorio's preference is to remain at Juventus and fight for his place, but with no guarantee of minutes, he could be tempted to leave.
The Premier League is the biggest league in the world and many players would be delighted to compete in it.
Up until this point in Di Gregorio's career, his focus has been on staying in Italy, rejecting opportunities to go abroad.
But, the door has always been left open by his agent, Carlo Alberto Belloni, for potential future moves to England.
In 2023, as relayed by FC Inter 1908, Belloni stated: "There's significant interest from several English clubs.
"And I must say that the attention from the Premier League is pleasing."
Those comments are a clear indication that interest from England is welcome for his client.
Meanwhile, in 2024, as per Monza News, Belloni described opportunities in the Premier League as "always attractive."
But, as previously stated, the priority then was to remain in the Serie A.
Now, two years on, as Di Gregorio faces a crossroads over his career, with Juventus eyeing another goalkeeper, the previous openness over the Premier League could help Leeds.
Although he may want to try to save his Juventus career, guaranteed minutes in the Premier League could be hard to turn down.
What would Di Gregorio bring to Leeds?
Di Gregorio has proven to be a solid shot-stopper when he faces a low volume of shots.
In the Serie A, he only averaged two saves a games, with a 70 per cent save success rate.
In his performances, he concedes less than a goal a game at 0.8, according to Sofascore.
At Leeds, he would be coming into a much tougher situation. The Whites placed in 14th for xG conceded (55.7), while Juventus were the best defence statistically in Serie A (33.0 xG conceded).
So, there would be questions to have over whether Di Gregorio could deal with a higher volume of chances faced.
Either way, this one doesn't fill any with confidence yet.
