Why Leeds United have reason to be encouraged by Nelson Deossa update from Spain

Nelson Deossa has emerged as a target for Leeds United over the last few days.

The Colombian has been earmarked for an exit from Real Betis with his game time set to be limited.

Deossa is a versatile player, mainly playing in the midfield, but has recently been deployed at striker as Real Betis await for their full squad to be ready.

The Seville-based club are set to compete in the Champions League next season, and want to add names to their squad.

Financial issues and La Liga rules mean they are limited in their options this summer.

However, Deossa's exit would open the door to allow them to cast a wider net in the market.

James Trafford has moved to Leeds, and the Whites will swiftly be turning their attentions elsewhere.

One such player who has emerged as an option for the Elland Road side is Deossa.

Deossa's link to Leeds came with the Whites sending scouts to watch him live against Arsenal in Dublin.

Leeds' potential move for the midfielder could already be hitting a snag as ABC Sevilla reports he favours remaining at the Spanish club.

However, according to that same report, Real Betis want Deossa to make a move to the Premier League, and are waiting for more offers to see if the 26-year-old changes his mind.

They feel that England's top-flight would allow the Colombian to flourish and reach his best potential, with that being the "ideal scenario."

Of course, that move would also secure the La Liga club a profit on the 26-year-old, as it is said that while they want him to make that move, it would have to be under the "right conditions."

Betis want the sale for another reason too, as it would allow them to further strengthen the squad by being allowed to sign a non-EU player in midfield.

Leeds, for now, may simply be waiting in the wings, and hoping to learn of a positive outcome in their pursuit. But they will be encouraged by Betis' stance at the very least.

After signing Trafford, Leeds will move for another goalkeeper to replace the likely departure of Lucas Perri.

Additionally, as evident by the interest in Deossa and the failed pursuit of Shea Charles, a midfielder is wanted.

The Whites have also been linked to many strikers this summer, with that another area that needs to be improved depth-wise.

While, a back-up for Gabriel Gudmundsson is also needed for this upcoming season.
