Why Leeds United could get welcome financial boost as Jack Harrison exit heats up

Published on

Jack Harrison once again appears to be close to leaving Leeds United - and this time for good.

The 29-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Fiorentina in Serie A.

Harrison's time at Elland Road has looked up for a while, with Daniel Farke not trusting the winger.

There was talk last month that Harrison could join New England Revolution on a permanent deal.

And fresh speculation has now emerged to back up those initial reports.

If that is to be the case, it would provide a big financial boost to Leeds in more ways than one.

Jack Harrison's Leeds exit looking more likely than ever

Harrison has been on Leeds' books since 2018, albeit he has spent two seasons with Everton and six months with Fiorentina.

The former New York City FC player still has two years to run on his big-money contract at Elland Road.

In an update provided by reporter Gustavo Lopes on Friday via X, it appears a move for Harrison to join the Revs is gathering pace.

"After speaking with sources, I’ve been told negotiations between the New England Revolution and Leeds United for Jack Harrison remain active," posted Lopes, who is a reporter for Nossa Radio USA.

"There’s growing confidence that an agreement can be reached."

It is not known how much New England would be willing to pay for Harrison, but even a nominal amount would aid Leeds.

Where does Harrison rank among Leeds' highest earners?

As surprising as it may seem, Harrison is one of Leeds' highest-earning players.

In fact, as per various outlets, only Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£100,000-per-week) earns more than Harrison's £90k salary.

Sean Longstaff is reported to be next on the list on £80,000, followed by Dan James and Noah Okafor on £75k and £72.5k respectively.

This explains why Leeds are so eager to get rid of Harrison for good.

Not only is he taking up a squad place, he is also impacting Leeds' spending elsewhere due to PSR.

The earlier into the summer Leeds can free up those hefty funds, the better for all involved.
