Why Leeds' goalkeeper business isn't over after James Trafford amid Lucas Perri talks

Lucas Perri will be keeping a close eye on Leeds United's move for James Trafford amid interest from Torino.

The Brazilian will not be too happy that his place as Leeds' number one is now unlikely to be reinstated.

The goalkeeper position has long been an issue for the Whites this summer, following Karl Darlow's controversial exit to Manchester United.

Leeds, though, have remained patient, refusing to panic and it now seems top target Trafford will come through the door.

Talks have been seemingly moving in a positive direction, although those are not the only goalkeeper talks currently underway.

Reports out of Brazil have shared the latest on Perri's future, with Torino still looking to secure a deal.

MOT Leeds News previously reported that Torino were eyeing a move for Perri.

And it appears their interest has moved onto the next stage.

According to Brazilian outlet UOL, Torino have "opened talks" with Leeds over a move for Perri.

The report shares that the Whites are seeking to gain a sum of around £12.8million.

With the potential arrival of Trafford, Perri will likely be relegated to number two once more.

The South American shot-stopper will not be best pleased with that situation, but if his exit is secured, the Peacocks will have to dip back into the market.

If all moves are completed, that would leave just Trafford and Alex Cairns in LS11.

For Daniel Farke's squad, he will need another goalkeeper to make up the numbers, and that could come from the transfer market once again.

Could Daniel Farke turn to youth?

There could always be the case of Farke turning to a younger goalkeeper and making him his third-choice at Elland Road.

That would provide the youngster with plenty of experience, but with Cairns barely playing over the last few years, it would leave the Whites in a tricky situation should injury issues arise.

Cairns may be well suited to playing a cup game here and there, but the 33-year-old would represent a significant risk for Leeds should he have to play in the Premier League.

Truthfully, the likelihood is that if Perri is allowed to leave Elland Road this summer, Leeds' goalkeeping business will not end with Trafford.
