Lucas Perri: The brutal reality facing goalkeeper at Leeds United after £8.5m transfer demand
Lucas Perri is at a crossroads at Leeds United this transfer window.
The Whites spent over £15million to sign the Brazilian goalkeeper from Olympique Lyon last summer with the obvious view of him as their new number one.
Midway through the 2025-26 campaign, the 28-year-old suffered the same fate as Illan Meslier and was replaced by Karl Darlow between the sticks.
Daniel Farke clearly wasn't pleased with Perri's consistent errors and he immediately paid the price for it at Elland Road.
The West Yorkshire outfit now go into the next season with the Brazil national and Alex Cairns as their only two options after Meslier and Darlow's contracts expired.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Wales international, but the goalkeeper crisis could worsen amid uncertainty around the ex-Lyon shot-stopper's future in LS11.
Lucas Perri might be stuck at Leeds United
As was the case with Meslier, there's certainly a possibility that Leeds will keep Perri at the club for next season.
The Brazilian ace might be forced to remain backup goalkeeper at Elland Road if Darlow doesn't sign a new contract.
According to Tuttomercatoweb on 8 July, while Torino are interested in Perri, he isn't their priority target, with Orlando Gill, who performed well for Paraguay at the 2026 World Cup, their first choice.
The West Yorkshire outfit's star could be available for £8.5million, but it remains to be seen whether any team will pay that price for him.
Lucas Perri can't catch a break at Elland Road
Leeds are pushing to sign Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as they plan for a possible future without Darlow.
If the Whites spend a significant sum on a new shot-stopper, it wouldn't bode well for Perri.
The Brazilian may have an opportunity to revive his career in LS11 if the Wales international leaves, but the arrival of quality reinforcements in his position will likely make it challenging.
For now, all eyes will be on what the West Yorkshire outfit will do next after officially announcing Harry Wilson as their first summer signing, with fans expecting recruitment to ramp up now.
