Why Carlos Espi could be the maverick Daniel Farke needs as new name on Leeds shortlist
Carlos Espi has emerged as the latest target on Leeds United's shortlist of possible striker signings.
The Whites are expected to turn focus to their attacking department once a deal for James Trafford is concluded.
The finishing touches are still being put to that deal, with that set to be Leeds' third signing of the summer after Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic.
Espi is another player liked by Leeds chiefs and the Levante ace certainly ticks plenty of boxes.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin in need of more competition, it is clear to see why Espi is wanted at Elland Road.
Graham Smyth shares new Leeds transfer update
Leeds have been linked with their fair share of forwards so far this summer.
The addition of Wilson is a massive boost for Daniel Farke, but more firepower is clearly needed before the summer window closes.
As per an update from the Yorkshire Evening Post's Graham Smyth via X on Monday afternoon, "Espi is on the list of strikers [Leeds] like."
However, Smyth adds that no bid or move is imminent at this stage.
Espi is aged just 21 but is already making waves in LaLiga, having been named Player of the Month in March.
He landed that top award thanks to scoring four goals in three matches for Levante .
The Spain Under-20s international only signed a new deal with Levante in February, which will tie him down for a further two years.
While he is not exactly a household name, Espi is a maverick of sorts and a player who has already proved he can find the net at the highest level.
At 6ft 4in, and more than capable of linking up play, he could nicely slot into Leeds' attack alongside Calvert-Lewin if required.
James Trafford update also emerges out of Leeds
Smyth also provided an update on the Trafford situation on Monday afternoon.
Reports had earlier emerged suggesting a private plane with Trafford on board had arrived at Leeds Bradford Airport.
Smyth reports this is not the case, but talks with Manchester City are continuing to progress.
Everything points towards that deal being concluded imminently, allowing Leeds to then turn focus to their attack.
