Lucas Perri's 'will he, won't he?' Leeds United to Torino transfer saga finally looks set to be resolved.

The Brazilian goalkeeper's move to Turin has been on and off over the last few weeks.

With James Trafford now the clear record-setting number one, the 28-year-old is firmly out of favour with Daniel Farke.

Despite Leeds only making four new signings this summer, they've still invested significant transfer funds to acquire them, and so the books must be balanced.

Getting Perri off the Elland Road wage bill has clearly been a priority for Leeds this summer.

And now, they may not have to wait much longer to finally see that mission completed.

How Torino manager feels about signing Lucas Perri after Serie A opener

Torino began their Serie A campaign with a 2-1 defeat to AC Milan on Sunday.

Between the sticks for the Turin-based outfit was 19-year-old Diego Mascardi, who may require more time before he's truly ready for the number one role.

However, it was reported on Sunday that Torino could scrap a move for Perri entirely, with it being claimed he'd not in fact completed a medical with the Italians.

But, in a fresh report from Tuttomercato on Monday, Torino manager Ignazio Abate is still looking to sign a new starting shot-stopper before the transfer deadline.

The report reaffirms that Perri is their top target, and that the Leeds man has already agreed to sign for them.

It's claimed that over the next few days, Torino will attempt to finalise the deal, which will be an initial £855,000 loan with a £12million purchase option.

So, how likely is it Torino would trigger that reported purchase option, and how much pressure will Perri be put under over there?

Why Perri has easy expectations to achieve with Torino

Torino are a well-established mid-table side in Italy's Serie A, and have been for a number of years now.

Indeed, between the 2021-22 and 2025-26 seasons, they've only finished between 12th and ninth.

That 12th-placed campaign did come last term, however, and it was their defence that really let Il Toro (The Bulls) down.

As per FotMob, their 63 goals conceded saw them rank 19th of 20 in Serie A for goals conceded per game at 1.7.

Because of this, Perri doesn't have a particularly high bar to jump in respect to last season's goalkeeping shortcomings in Turin.

So, as long as he provides Torino with a solid pair of hands, they're surely likely to be more than happy to trigger his option to buy clause from Leeds.
