Lucas Perri to Torino has been a story building up over the last few days as Leeds United look to refresh their goalkeeping options.

The Whites are seemingly moving forward to bring James Trafford to Elland Road, following Karl Darlow's exit earlier in the window.

Trafford is Leeds' top target and his arrival would signal Perri maintaining his role as second-choice next season.

The Brazilian will not be happy to be on the bench for the majority of the season, after arriving in LS11 last summer with every intention of being number one.

MOT Leeds News has been keeping up with all of the updates, including Torino officially opening talks for Perri.

Now, the status of those discussions has emerged as Leeds' goalkeeper business continues to rumble on.

What is the latest on Torino's talks for Leeds United's Lucas Perri?

At this stage, it would be a surprise to see Perri in the Elland Road dugout next season, as it looks like a transfer is now in the closing stages.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, a deal has already been "agreed" between all parties.

Perri looks to be heading to Torino on a loan deal with an option to buy. But that is contingent on Trafford being confirmed at Elland Road.

The report shares that "optimism is filtering through" and that the wait for the confirmation could be a "matter of days".

Of course, for Leeds United fans, that means that Trafford's confirmation will also likely follow that timeline with Perri's transfer hinging on that fact.

Why sigh of relief will be heard at Elland Road

Perri will ultimately go down as a failed transfer for Leeds United, but after his £13.9million move, if they can get close to that fee back, there will be limited repercussions.

A fee close to that figure looks to be on the agenda, as a £12.8m agreement with Leeds and Torino has been floated about.

Based on the latest reports, the Whites would only earn that income should Perri excel in Serie A, with Torino wanting to activate his buy-option.

But after one failed year in England, the LS11 outfit will be breathing a sigh of relief that they could get a significant portion of their investment back.

Business between the sticks is unlikely to be finished now though, as Perri's exit would mean Trafford needs an understudy.
