What we know about Crysencio Summerville sell-on clause at Leeds as West Ham accept £68m bid
Crysencio Summerville's time in English football is over for now as he prepares to leave West Ham, two years on from his Leeds United exit.
Leeds saw Summerville depart Elland Road in August 2024 on the back of scoring 21 goals and assisting 10 more in his final campaign.
The Whites' failure to get back to the Premier League that season, when losing to Southampton at Wembley, put paid to hopes of retaining the winger.
After a couple of mixed campaigns at the London Stadium, culminating in another relegation last time out, Summerville is now on the move again.
It was widely reported on Tuesday afternoon that West Ham have accepted a whopping £68million bid for Summerville from Al-Hilal.
And Leeds are already fully aware of whether they will be seeing a penny of that sum.
Who's to blame as Leeds miss out on Crysencio Summerville windfall?
MOT Leeds News reported last week that West Ham were going to receive anything north of £34m for Summerville.
It has now been reported that West Ham can expect almost double that in a rather remarkable piece of business.
Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth reacted to the news via X on Tuesday and instantly shared whether Leeds stand to profit.
"No, no sell-on clause," he posted.
Some were quick to blame Victor Orta for the oversight, although it was pointed out he was long gone by the time Summerville joined West Ham.
Others then questioned if the 49ers could have done more, but it may well be that West Ham simply took advantage of a relegation clause in Summerville's contract.
How much would Leeds have earned from Summerville's move?
It was reported at the time that Leeds landed £25m for the 24-year-old, plus add-ons.
Should he now depart West Ham for the £68m mentioned, that would be a profit of around £43m for the Irons.
Fifteen per cent of that, which is around the norm for sell-ons, would be just short of £6.5m.
It goes without saying that is a welcome sum for any club to go towards a bigger purchase.
Unfortunately for Leeds, it is not the case and only West Ham will profit from Summerville's latest move.
