What fans need to know as Leeds United weigh up Igor Paixao transfer after Julian Brandt decision
Leeds United may be turning their attention back to Igor Paixao in the hunt for a new attacker.
The Whites were heavily linked with a move for free agent Julian Brandt following his exit from Borussia Dortmund.
However, that pursuit finally hit a dead end on Friday when it was announced the Germany international had joined Ajax.
It means the Whites are back at the drawing board as they look to add options to their attack before the close of the transfer window.
Leeds have been linked to several strikers and attacking midfielders throughout the transfer window.
But one link from 12 months ago in the form of Paixao is still lingering as Daniel Farke eyes another forward.
Graham Smyth shares new update after Leeds miss out on Julian Brandt
Earlier this month, MOT Leeds News covered reports of how Roma were looking at signing Paixao from Marseille.
However, as yet nothing concrete has materialised from any club in terms of a move for the 26-year-old Brazilian.
Leeds were heavily linked with Paixao last summer upon their return to the Premier League after he had proven a hit in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord.
He ultimately opted to make the move to Marseille, but the Ligue 1 club are potentially in need of player sales to meet spending parameters.
Taking to X, Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth provided an update following Brandt's decision to join Ajax.
He wrote: "Leeds United have been evaluating other attacking options particularly since Julian Brandt didn't sign prior to the US tour.
"They have several and among that number is Igor Paixao."
Which other attackers have Leeds been looking at?
Leeds have already signed Harry Wilson on a free from Fulham to boost their options in the final third.
But it is no secret that Farke would like more options further up the pitch as Leeds look to improve on a 14th-place finish last season.
Carlos Espi had been heavily linked but the forward ultimately joined Real Madrid from Levante.
Liam Delap's name has been mentioned, though as things stand a move for the Chelsea striker is not thought to be happening.
Barcelona's Roony Bardghji and Leo Scienza of Southampton are also names to have been linked throughout the window.
