What Daniel Farke's defensive plan could be as Leeds United 'want to keep' John Stones in England
Daniel Farke could be plotting a new-look Leeds United defence with John Stones at the heart of it.
The Whites have seen some defensive changes already, starting with Pascal Struijk's exit to Brighton.
The Dutchman left Elland Road to join the Seagulls in an £18million package deal, despite Farke and Co. wanting him to stay,
Acting after his departure, Leeds quickly moved to sign World Cup eye-catcher Tarik Muharemovic after agreeing a £34m move with his former side, Sassuolo.
There have been reports suggesting that Farke may bring another central defender after Muharemovic, and they could be true.
That's because Leeds' interest in Stones has finally been confirmed.
John Stones wanted by Leeds amid interest in Italy
MOT Leeds News has previously covered when Leeds have been backed to sign Stones, though they were just opinions.
They came after the 32-year-old left Manchester City upon the expiration of his contract this summer, which saw him stay at the Etihad Stadium from 2016 until 2026.
He enjoyed winning more trophies than he can count with his hands in 10 years under Pep Guardiola, but is now set for a new challenge.
Stones has been away with England for the World Cup, recently featuring in the Three Lions' devastating semi-final defeat to Argentina on Wednesday.
Despite England's exit, the former Man City star can hold his head up high for his own performances, as the Whites could be on to a smart signing for Farke.
What Daniel Farke could be planning for Leeds' defence
There have been some suggestions to say that Farke could revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation, but it's hard to see how if Leeds sign Stones.
The Whites already have Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol and now Muharemovic as starting options, as Stones would only stress another reason to keep playing with three centre-backs.
It could be that Stones and Muharemovic would be seen as two clear starters, while Bijol and Rodon would have to fight it out for the other spot.
But depth is also another key factor for Paraag Marathe and Co. to consider.
Stones has aged like a fine wine, and though his wages would be costly, Leeds could do with a luxury signing like him to progress in the Premier League.
