The transfer terms Leeds United are set to accept for Sebastiaan Bornauw exit
Sebastiaan Bornauw has been heavily linked with a move out of Leeds United to Hamburg this summer.
The Belgian defender has not kicked on at Elland Road following his move from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2025.
The Belgian rarely featured for Daniel Farke's side, with it becoming quickly clear he was not going to be a regular starter.
Bornauw is seeking to put his career back on track and begin playing regular football once more.
That has meant many links out of LS11 have been emerging, with Hamburg looking the likeliest to agree a deal.
And the terms of a potential transfer have now emerged.
What type of deal could be agreed for Sebastiaan Bornauw's Leeds exit?
Leeds signed Bornauw for £5.1million last summer, so it was not the most expensive deal the Whites have ever completed.
However, if they were looking to recoup their money this summer, that does not look to be the case currently.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, amid interest from Hamburg, the centre-back has been "expected" to leave on a loan deal with a buy option.
At the moment, it is not known how much that purchase clause would be, but you would think the Whites look to try to turn a profit on the 27-year-old.
Despite his lack of playing time, Farke is a big fan, praising Bornauw's performance as he played 90 minutes in Dublin versus Manchester United.
An exit for Bornauw could culminate soon, with Farke also saying to wait and see what the next few days bring.
Bornauw is a priority for Hamburg, with the Bundesliga side said to be confident over an agreement.
Would Leeds need to replace Bornauw?
All signs in pre-season have pointed towards Leeds continuing to use a three-at-the-back formation.
If that is the case, the exit of Bornauw would mean the Whites need a replacement.
As things stand, the LS11 outfit have only four natural centre-backs in their squad, with James Justin capable of dropping into a back three.
That leaves five centre-back options for three positions. But with Bornauw leaving, that area of the squad would be light.
Four centre-back options for three positions is not sustainable over a long season.
Farke would need to dip back into the market and find another centre-back signing following on from Tarik Muharemovic's arrival.
So, the Whites may very well continue to be active in the defensive market in the final three weeks of the summer window as they look to add to the squad.
