Sebastiaan Bornauw could already be on his way out of Leeds United after one season.

The Whites signed the centre-back from VfL Wolfsburg last summer, but his situation in LS11 remains uncertain.

Daniel Farke seems to trust other options in his backline as starters, leaving the Belgium international struggling for minutes.

Hamburg are now looking to sign Bornauw from Elland Road as they look to bolster their defence.

The three-time Bundesliga champions are looking to replace Luka Vuskovic, who spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan with them and has now joined Brighton from Tottenham Hotspur.

As a result, the German club have set their sights on the West Yorkshire outfit's 27-year-old centre-back.

Hamburg have expressed interest in Bornauw as they urgently require defensive reinforcements.

Farke has heavily relied on the Belgian ace during pre-season, but it would be safe to assume that Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol and Tarik Muharemovic are ahead of him in the pecking order.

According to Hamburger Abendblatt on 9 August, Bornauw is one of the German club's priority transfer targets.

If everything goes to plan, the Bundesliga side should be able to finalise a move for the defender in the near future.

After Vuskovic's exit, Hamburg lack composure in the backline during build-up and aerial prowess, which is something the Belgium international could add to their squad.

It looks like Farke will continue to deploy the 5-3-2 formation next season.

The change in system arguably helped the German manager save his job last year and secured Premier League safety for the Whites.

Muharemovic has replaced Pascal Struijk, but the West Yorkshire outfit may have to sign another centre-back soon.

Bornauw will surely play a key role as a backup during the 2026-27 campaign and any departure will leave a void in Farke's defensive options.

At the moment, there are four senior centre-backs in the Whites' first-team squad and James Justin can also play in the position.

Farke surely can't afford to lose Bornauw unless the West Yorkshire outfit have plans to find an adequate replacement.
