The instant wish granted to Sebastiaan Bornauw as Leeds United exit announced
Sebastiaan Bornauw has spoken out following confirmation of his Leeds United exit.
The Belgium international has joined the Bundesliga side on an initial season-long loan.
Hamburg have the option to buy Bornauw, who only arrived at Elland Road 12 months ago, at the end of the campaign.
He made just 14 appearances in all competitions last season as Daniel Farke used him as a squad player.
Bornauw had already sad his farewells to Leeds ahead of confirmation of the transfer, which arrived on Wednesday.
And it appears the 27-year-old has been granted an instant wish at his new club.
Sebastiaan Bornauw speaks out after Leeds exit
Bornauw was a popular member of the Leeds dressing room and, selfishly speaking, it would have been good to keep him this campaign.
However, the signing of Tarik Muharemovic and the imminent arrival of Nico Elvedi would have pushed Bornauw even further down the pecking order.
Hamburg announced via their official website on Wednesday morning that Bornauw has joined.
It is mentioned that he has been given his favoured 33 shirt, which he also wore while at FC Koln, so that wish has already been granted.
Bornauw instead sported the number 23 shirt at Elland Road, due to Isaac Schmidt occupying the 33 shirt when he arrived.
“I’m really thrilled to be here," Bornauw told Hamburg's official website. "I love the emotions that surround a traditional club like HSV.
"As a player, that gives me a lot of energy. The fans can look forward to me always giving everything for my team.”
Now that Bornauw's exit is confirmed, shortly after Joel Piroe's own loan move to West Ham, the big question is when will Elvedi arrive?
Where does Nico Elvedi to Leeds deal stand?
Leeds would only have granted Bornauw's exit if a deal for Elvedi was in place.
The latest is that Elvedi underwent a medical earlier this week, with everything else in place for a deal to go through.
All that is now left is for confirmation to arrive from Leeds, or indeed Borussia Monchengladbach.
It may well be that the Whites want to stagger the announcements, but Leeds fans surely will not have to wait long for this latest deal to be confirmed.
