Leeds United are pushing forward to try and sign Manchester City's James Trafford, but they may have to bow to one particular term.

The Whites have long needed a goalkeeper, and that was before Karl Darlow made the move to Manchester United.

Lucas Perri had failed to make a solid impression in LS11 and was ultimately relegated to second choice last season by Daniel Farke.

Now, it seems the Whites have made positive breakthroughs for their primary target between the sticks in Trafford.

But it seems that is a clause he now wants to be included in his contract at Elland Road should a deal be reached.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, who regularly reports for talkSPORT and GiveMeSport, discussions over a release clause are ongoing.

This clause would allow "specific clubs" to come in for Trafford at a certain price.

Meanwhile, certain circumstances at Elland Road would also allow it to be triggered.

Reading through the lines, the circumstances may likely include if the Whites were to be relegated.

For the clubs, that may include those on the upper end of the Premier League table or perhaps throughout Europe.

Would Leeds be making a mistake to include Trafford release clause?

The inclusion of the release clause would be an annoying condition, but it appears to be the final step with a deal otherwise wanted by all parties.

If Trafford has an excellent season at Elland Road this upcoming campaign, what is not to say that some of those top sides do not come in after just one season?

That would leave Leeds back in the same position they have been in the last few weeks next summer as well.

Hypothetically, if the clause includes those regularly considered to be the top English teams, then next summer could be an issue.
