Leeds United have ramped up their plans to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.

The Whites are in desperate need of a new shot-stopper after the departure of Karl Darlow.

The Wales international opted to depart Elland Road at the end of his contract, despite ending the season as number one.

He has now joined Manchester United in a controversial summer switch.

Ironically, it could be rivals Man City who hold the key to the next goalkeeper option for Daniel Farke.

Trafford has now emerged as a target as the LS11 outfit look to get a deal done.

Lucas Perri came in last summer and looked set to become the first-choice option for Daniel Farke.

That didn't work out and the Brazilian ultimately found himself benched and only utilised as cup keeper.

As a result, bringing in a new face for that position is a desire this summer.

Indeed, the quality of goalkeeper Leeds sign could easily define their summer transfer window.

Trafford is a target to fill that void, with transfer journalist Ben Jacobs reporting on Thursday that Leeds have held talks with the England international.

The 23-year-old is said to be one of Leeds' leading targets, while Newcastle United have also shown an interest.

Door opens for Leeds to sign Trafford

The Englishman swapped Burnley for Man City last summer as he returned to his boyhood club.

He was ultimately let down as a market opportunity to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma saw him demoted to second choice.

He did still manage to lift the FA Cup as a starter as he truly proved his worth in between the sticks.

That will have only made the fire in his belly burn brighter as he looks to get back to being a number one.

Leeds could certainly offer him that and it may be the perfect opportunity now for the Whites to land themselves a real coup.
