Leeds United transfer news as Archie Gray to Brentford bombshell dropped by David Ornstein

Archie Gray is set to leave Leeds United this summer and secure a permanent move to Brentford, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist reported on 29 June that the Whites will be getting a £35million fee in return for the 18-year-old.

Brentford have moved ahead of other top-flight clubs to secure Gray’s services.

Via Twitter, Ornstein wrote: “Archie Gray set for medical at Brentford after agreeing terms to join from Leeds. If all goes to plan deal expected with #LUFC – £35m fee. Host of top clubs pursuing 18yo midfielder but #BrentfordFC on course to complete switch.”

Leeds United losing a key player in Archie Gray

The Whites losing Gray to Brentford even for £35 million is a significant blow.

Gray, an 18-year-old midfielder, has been a standout performer for Leeds, making 52 appearances last season and earning a call-up to the England U21 squad.

He offered decent cover and quality in a plethora of roles and Daniel Farke knows replacing him is going to be hard.

The transfer fee, while substantial, reflects the Englishman’s potential and the interest from top-flight clubs.

However, losing a homegrown talent like Gray, who has been with Leeds since the age of nine, could have a negative impact on the club’s morale and identity.

The Whites will need to reinvest the funds wisely to strengthen their squad and maintain their competitiveness in the Championship.
