Leeds United have said that Brentford have not expressed an interest to sign Archie Gray, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reacted on 29 June to reports suggesting the London club want to sign the 18-year-old.

This comes after Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath claimed that the Bees were eyeing a summer transfer for the midfielder.

Smyth wrote on Twitter: "Leeds say Brentford aren't among the clubs to have expressed interest in Archie Gray so far. Could change or course.

"49ers Enterprises have got to be so careful. If he's sold and there's any sense that it wasn't a move too good for Gray himself to turn down, it won't play well."

Leeds United fight a tough battle to keep Archie Gray at the club

Leeds face a tough battle to retain Gray due to his potential and the interest from Premier League clubs.

The 18-year-old midfielder has shown significant promise, making 52 appearances in all competitions for Leeds last season and earning a call-up to the England U21 squad.

His versatility, playing both in midfield and at right-back, adds to his appeal.

The club's recent failure to secure promotion to the Premier League increases the likelihood of Gray considering offers from top-flight clubs.

Leeds' financial situation is not ideal either and they may be needed to make a big sale this summer.

However, the Whites are committed to keeping Gray and the battle to keep him will likely depend on the club's ability to convince him that staying at Elland Road is the best option for his development and future success.

The fans will not want him gone but they will understand his decision if he opts to seal an exit this summer.
