Leeds United to make Rutter announcement as medical passed – Sky Sports journalist
Leeds United are set to announce Georginio Rutter’s exit soon after he completed his medical ahead of a transfer to Brighton, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via X on Saturday (17 August) that the French forward has successfully passed his medical on the south coast and put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Seagulls.
In total, Daniel Farke’s side will pocket £42.6million for Rutter’s signature if all clauses included in his move are activated, £2.6million more than was originally expected when his exit clause was originally activated [David Ornstein, 14 August].
Will Georginio Rutter exit Leeds United amid Brighton transfer rumours?
While this news won’t come as a shock to Leeds United supporters as this transfer has become expected in the last few weeks, the fanbase will be disappointed to see that Rutter’s exit is now inevitable.
Most will have expected the Frenchman to remain at Elland Road this summer after the Whites rejected Brighton’s original proposal and balanced the books with the sales of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray.
But while that £40million release clause was in the attacker’s contract, the Whites were always going to struggle to keep him beyond the end of August, especially after they missed out on promotion to the Premier League last term.
On the bright side, Leeds have managed to pocket a good transfer fee for a player that they seemed destined to take a loss on only 12 months ago and now have more money to play with this summer.
That means that the 49ers now simply have to put their money where their mouth is before the transfer window slams shut and back Farke. The Whites need new signings and they don’t have too much longer to get them.
