Leeds United: Three places Illan Meslier could end up after Elland Road farewell
Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier will leave Elland Road at the end of his contract, but it is not yet clear where he will end up next.
The Whites announced the Frenchman's exit as part of their retained list, confirming that he will not be handed a fresh deal.
That was widely expected as he has a stunning fall from grace in the last couple of years.
He was the number one for the most of the Championship promotion-winning campaign, making 39 appearances in the league, but lost his place after a series of howlers.
He never regained it back, as Daniel Farke could not trust him to keep the Peacocks in the top flight.
After Meslier sent an emotional farewell to the Elland Road side, MOT Leeds News picks three clubs where he may end up.
Birmingham City could sign Leeds ace Illan Meslier
Meslier could find his way back to the second tier with Birmingham City.
The St Andrew's side are looking to get promoted to the Premier League and the 26-year-old has already achieved that twice with the LS11 side, so his experience would be vital.
Local Blues journalists Alex Dicken and Brian Dick raised the possibility when speaking on the Keep Right On podcast in May.
Dicken said: "He's a really good Championship goalkeeper. I like him - he was good under [Marcelo] Bielsa; he's a decent goalkeeper in the Championship. Still 26, you could throw a three or four-year contract at him and not be worried about it."
Brian replied, saying: "If he's Blues' forever goalkeeper, would you be happy with him?"
Dicken responded: "I'd be content with him, yeah."
Sevilla could have golden opportunity for Meslier signing
Spanish reports in May claimed that Sevilla had made the Whites star their top target for the summer window.
They said that they had a "golden opportunity" to sign the player who fits their strategic goals.
The seven-time Europa League winners believe that the French ace could revive his career with the La Liga side.
It was claimed that Andalusia were exploring a free transfer for Meslier, with only salary, signing bonus and contract length to be discussed.
Meslier could seek a return to France
Meslier started his footballing journey in his home country, with FC Lorient before making the move to England.
Reports from France in March suggested that he could "rebound" to a modest Ligue 1 team to kickstart his career again.
They stated that his former club had closely monitored the conditions for a comeback last summer.
That could be the perfect move for the goalkeeper after a difficult spell in English football, one that could make him fall in love with the game again.
