Leeds United serious about £50m Liam Delap as roll of dice on cards
Liam Delap is an interesting name that refuses to go away at Leeds United this summer.
Daniel Farke has been treated by the 49ers after keeping them in the Premier League last season.
Elland Road was a fortress, and signing James Trafford for £45million has smashed the transfer record at Leeds.
Not only that, but big money has been spent on Tarik Muharemovic, Harry Wilson and Nico Elvedi.
Even with those, a striker has always been wanted and that's where Delap could come into play.
After a quiet season at Chelsea, the door is opening.
Will Leeds United sign another striker?
It's no secret that they've certainly been looking.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha were both on fire last season, scoring 20 between them.
But, injuries continue to be a nagging doubt, given their histories.
So, it's no surprise that iNews have reported that Leeds are still "serious" suitors for Chelsea's Delap.
They report that it would still cost £50million to sign him, despite only one Premier League goal last season.
It means that a "roll of the dice" could be on the cards for another striker, despite no clear alternatives being available in the market.
Liam Delap transfer is viable at Leeds
Ahead of a trip to the City Ground to open the Premier League season on Saturday, Nottingham Forest are also interested.
Everton are the third party, too, meaning despite the price, competition is sky-high for the striker.
Leeds may have already spent around £90m, but they've sold unwanted players superbly this summer.
Their net spend is closer to just above £50m when all things are considered, with Lucas Perri and Largie Ramazani still to go.
That opens the door to even bigger transfers.
Realistically, nobody at Leeds will pay £50m for Delap, though, whether they have the money or not.
It's a huge gamble after the season he's just had, and an initial loan would make far more sense.
If Farke could get Delap in temporarily with a smaller option to buy, it could make complete sense moving forward.
He'd learn the system, and with clubs sniffing around Nmecha as he enters the final year of his contract, it is perfect.
