Leeds United have a new urgency when it comes to Karl Darlow's contract situation.

The goalkeeper is out of contract later this month and no deal has been agreed to keep him at Elland Road.

Darlow forced his way into the starting line-up this season, making 22 Premier League appearances, as new signing Lucas Perri was not up the standard.

It is unfathomable that he could be allowed to leave for free in a few weeks time, especially given his position in the squad at the moment.

However, it is even more unpalatable that Manchester United could end up being his destination.

That would be the ultimate betrayal for many supporters in LS11, and would be an absolute sickener.

Could Manchester United actually sign Leeds star Karl Darlow?

Leeds want Darlow to remain and are expected to offer him a new deal to stay around beyond the end of the season.

However, United are considering a move for the 35-year-old, according to a report from The Athletic on 9 June.

The Red Devils are looking for a backup with experience and homegrown status, but it can't be the Welsh star.

That should be dismissed out of hand and the Peacocks should convince him to commit his future to them as soon as possible and wrap up the situation.

Why a move to Man United would hurt Leeds fans

A move to Man United specifically would hurt Peacocks fans more than most other clubs.

The Whites have a passionate rivalry with the Old Trafford side, dating back to tensions between their respective counties, Yorkshire and Lancashire.

That has reared its head again recently, with the Yorkshire outfit returning to the Premier League, and losing their starting goalkeeper to the Manchester side is not an option.

Darlow would be much better served staying and starting every week, than sitting on the bench under Senne Lammers, so hopefully he will agree to fresh terms with Farke's side.

The alternative is making a move that would see his name forever be tarnished with the supporters that have taken to him recently and embraced him as one of their own.

Why would he give that up to play second fiddle, only he can answer that question, if he ends up making the move across the Pennines.

Ethan Ampadu has signed on the dotted line, now it's time for Darlow to do exactly the same.
