Leeds United happy to sell Marc Roca after Wednesday developments

Marc Roca will complete a permanent transfer from Leeds United to Real Betis in the next few days, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist posted on X with an update (19 June) that talks between the clubs have progressed on Wednesday, with United set to avoid a profit and sustainability loss.

Roca is only halfway through a four-year contract at Elland Road having arrived for around £10million in the summer of 2022, but the Whites are happy to get the Spaniard’s wages off their financial books.

Leeds United happy to seal Marc Roca transfer departure

Roca’s exit from Elland Road has seemed to be in the post for several months; the speed at which he left the club on loan last summer suggests he had no intention of making a permanent return [El Des Marque].

While fellow midfielder Brenden Aaronson – who like Roca, exited LS11 temporarily last July – has confirmed he’ll be back next season, the Spaniard instead bought a house in Seville, making his future ambitions clear [Graham Smyth].

The Whites purchased the 27-year-old from Bayern Munich, but relegation in May 2023 cast any prospects of future profit into doubt.

After failing to secure an immediate return to the Premier League in a 1-0 loss to Southampton in the Championship play-off final, Leeds face another summer of departures and individuals stating their wishes to play at a higher level.

Roca was always going to be one of these players, and with avoiding PSR losses more important than turning profits when it comes to players not in Daniel Farke’s plans, United will be hoping that Roca’s transfer for a nominal sum is the first of many such sales [Kieran Maguire].
