Brenden Aaronson will be part of the Leeds United squad next season after returning from loan side Union Berlin, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist shared that Aaronson, Daniel Farke and other club officials held talks in recent days that ended with the 23-year-old deciding to stay put at Elland Road next season.

Aaronson was one of the first players to leave via a loan clause following Leeds' relegation from the Premier League, but after a mixed season with Union Berlin, he will pull on the white shirt once again.

Aaronson bombshell gives Farke options in Leeds United's attack

While it remains to be seen whether the Elland Road crowd will welcome Aaronson back with open arms - doubtful given his keenness to depart on loan before the start of last season - his presence could be hugely beneficial for Farke's summer transfer plans.

Georginio Rutter's brilliance helped Leeds to amass the 90-point total which would have seen them promoted in almost any other season, but Farke had otherwise limited options in attacking midfield.

Brenden Aaronson managed just one goal in 36 Premier League games in his first Leeds United season.

Despite not showing anywhere near the levels his talent suggested upon arrival in his first season at Elland Road, there is hope that with the consistency and playing style imposed by Farke, Aaronson could thrive in that role next season.

Two goals and assists apiece for the US international on loan at Union Berlin would need to be improved upon if he's to make an impact for Leeds, but it may come to pass that a Championship promotion campaign could be exactly what Aaronson needs to finally find his feet at Elland Road.
