Leeds United get Jordan James clarity as Premier League offer revelation emerges

Leeds United were linked with a move for Jordan James in the summer transfer window.

Daniel Farke made it clear that he wanted to sign a new midfielder in the summer, and it was perhaps the one wish that he was not granted.

The Whites made several attempts to try and bring Shea Charles to Elland Road from Southampton, but were ultimately edged out by Fulham after the London club met Saints' £30million valuation.

James was another name on the 49ers' list of potential recruits, after his stellar individual season for Leicester City.

The 22-year-old spent last campaign on loan with the Foxes, but returned to his parent club Rennes in the summer.

James chose to join Wolves on loan in the end, but Leeds now have clarity on his decision after his latest transfer admission.

Leeds were keen on signing James in the summer, along with several other Premier League and EFL clubs.

His preference was always to stay in England, but eventually his two clear options boiled down to Middlesbrough or Wolves, as he chose to head to Molineux on loan for the season.

The Old Gold have a reported buy option in the deal for the Wales international, which puts a future move to Elland Road in doubt.

PA Media journalist Phil Blanche has spoken to James and revealed what the player told him about Premier League interest this summer.

James said: "There were offers on the table from the Premier League, but I didn't feel they were the right fit.

"I'm at a team with high ambitions to win matches and push for promotion, which benefits my development much more right now."

One of those offers could have been Leeds, but it's clear that James felt he would not have been given the game time he desired by moving to a top-flight club.

He would have had to battle for his place against the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach, Ao Tanaka and more in LS11, and has yet to even start in the Championship for Wolves.

Do Leeds still need to sign another midfielder in January?

Like Charles, James would not have been guaranteed a place in Leeds' starting lineup.

The Whites were after a similar type of profile to what they were looking for in a striker: someone young who can develop.

The problem with that is that not many young and talented players will want to join a Premier League club with no assurances of game time.

Perhaps the January window will be a better time for Leeds to make a signing like this, as there is still uncertainty over who starts next to Ampadu in the middle of the park.

It's clear that another midfielder and striker would be welcomed at Elland Road; the question now is who?
