Leeds United fans to love it if they re-sign Joe Rodon amid fresh transfer update
Leeds United will have “a lot of interest” from Premier League clubs to compete with in their bid to re-sign Joe Rodon, according to Nancy Froston.
The Athletic’s new club writer appeared on the One Leeds Fan Channel on 26 June, and said that several clubs in the lower reaches of the Premier League will challenge the Whites for the Welshman’s signature.
Rodon excelled on loan from Tottenham last season, making 46 Championship appearances, but United’s failure to achieve promotion has cast their ability to sign him permanently into doubt [Football.London, 6 June].
Froston said: “The problem is when you have a player on loan and he plays so well – there’s going to be a lot of interest from Premier League teams.
“And, they’re going to have that money, just for the pleasure of being in the Premier League.
“Leeds retain that interest in bringing him back – they might have a bit of a bunfight to get in the mix for Rodon, but I’m sure it’d be a popular one if they do manage to get him back.”
Joe Rodon is top transfer priority at Leeds United this summer
Last season, United had the second-best defence in the Championship, won 90 points, and routed Norwich 4-0 in their play-off semi-final second leg.
However, that still wasn’t enough for the Whites to achieve promotion, losing 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final despite Rodon being by far and away their best player at Wembley.
As such, it’s no surprise to see that Daniel Farke’s side want to bring the 26-year-old back to LS11 this summer, but their failure to return to the Premier League, coupled with Rodon’s excellent performances, make doing that a difficult task [Phil Hay, 30 May].

Those performances have not gone unnoticed, with Froston mentioning that Southampton are one of the clubs interested in a transfer that would really rub salt in Leeds’ Wembley wounds [WalesOnline, 9 June].
Rodon himself appears open to an Elland Road return in the coming weeks, but from a financial perspective, the Peacocks are by no means at the top of the queue when it comes to tabling an offer to Tottenham [Yorkshire Evening Post, 26 June].
