Joe Rodon's Tottenham Hotspur contract has been extended following his impressive loan spell at Leeds United last season, according to Football London.

Leeds are hoping to strike a deal with Spurs to bring the 26-year-old back to Elland Road next season, but a one-year extension shows that the North Londoners won't be letting the Welsh international leave on the cheap.

Rodon remains a player almost certain to depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, though the extension means he is currently under contract to 2025 rather than being able to leave for free this summer.

The Whites' failure to achieve promotion in the Championship play-off final means another season in the second tier is on the horizon, limiting their ability to get a deal done for Rodon at a price which suits both parties [Phil Hay].

Will Leeds United re-sign Joe Rodon?

A second season of (reduced) Championship parachute payments means another summer of churn and change to Daniel Farke's Leeds squad - for whom Rodon is a top target.

Having failed to break into the Spurs first-team across three seasons in North London, Rodon played 50 times for the Whites in all competitions; more than the previous three campaigns combined.

Leeds United
Joe Rodon was one of Leeds United's most consistent performers in the Championship last season.

His combination with international team-mate Ethan Empadu helped the Peacocks achieve the second-best defensive record in the division, and their desire to bring Rodon back to Elland Road is hardly surprising.

The Whites will have to sell some of their key players this summer to satisfy financial fair play rules - they owe £190million in transfer fees on top of that [Kieran Maguire] - and thus stumping up a potentially eight-figure fee for Rodon could be a challenge.

However, Red Bull's involvement as a stakeholder and shirt sponsor could go some way towards easing the burden, and if that frees up enough funds to buy one of the best defenders in the Championship, Leeds know exactly where that money should be spent.
