Leeds United are still in the hunt for the ambitious signing of Julian Brandt.

The Germany international, 30, is one of the hottest free agents on the market after it was announced he will leave Borussia Dortmund.

Leeds have been credited with an interest, as they also look to seal deals for Harry Wilson and Shea Charles.

There is expected to be a lot of competition for his signature, though, with Champions League clubs thought to be monitoring his situation.

But Leeds are seemingly continuning unabashed in their pursuit of the attacking midfielder.

And fans have already been told the sort of player they could be signing if they get a deal over the line.

Leeds United target Julian Brandt once compared to Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala

Brandt has spent the past seven years with Dortmund, having made the switch to Signal Iduna Park from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019.

He won the DFB-Pokal in the 2020-21 campaign, and was a runner-up in the 2024 Champions League final.

The Bundesliga title has evaded him throughout his career, though he is still regarded as one of the league's best attacking players.

Dortmund coach Kovac, speaking to Welt Am Sonntag in August 2025, certainly thinks so, and he went as far as comparing him to Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala.

He said: "When he plays what he’s good at, he scores goals and provides even more assists.

"Then, in terms of value, Jule is the Wirtz for us and then he’s the Musiala.

"Of course, the other two are currently ranked above him but for me, Julian is one of the top three players in the Bundesliga in his position. I still stand by that.”

Julian Brandt could be most Red Bull signing yet at Leeds United as excitement grows

Where would Julian Brandt fit in at Leeds United?

The million dollar question at Leeds right now remains what system Daniel Farke employs next season.

The pursuits of Brandt and Wilson suggest that Farke might revert away from the 3-5-2 that brought so much success in the second half of last season.

If he were to persist with that, you would assume that Brandt may play off a central striker such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But if he did back to a 4-3-3 then it is likely he would be one of two attacking midfielers playing behind the striker.

There is still a long way to get this deal over the line, of course, but there is plenty of reason to be excited by this potential deal.
