Leeds second bid for Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson could be their last - report
Leeds United’s second bid for Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson is expected to be rejected and it could be their last, according to Express & Star journalist Ryan Taylor.
The Whites are very interested in the United States international this winter and want to add him to the squad as they look to fight off relegation.
But after having an initial bid rejected [Express and Star] they returned with a second £20m offer, which is now expected to be rejected with Salzburg having no intention of selling mid-season.
When asked in the replies about whether it could be Leeds’ final bid for the player or if they’d return with a third, Taylor was optimistic about the chances of another bid being made this month.
“I don’t know unfortunately. They won’t give up though and would be prepared to wait until the summer. Salzburg would then be open to a sale. We’ll see…”
It seems clear now that Aaronson is the one Leeds really want in midfield and they are willing to pay big money to get him this month.
The problem they have is that Salzburg aren’t in desperate need of any cash and really want to keep hold of the USA international for the remainder of the season at least.
Leeds need to bolster their squad so it’s no surprise that they are keen to invest, especially with their precarious league position currently.
But the fact they’re willing to go back in the summer if they need to shows confidence in the club’s future in the Premier League and some long-term planning on their behalf too.
Aaronson is unlikely to push for a move considering he is a regular with Salzburg and playing Champions League football, but a move to Leeds is certainly on the table for all at some point in the future.
