Leeds have 'made an enquiry' for Djed Spence signing - report
Leeds United have ‘made an enquiry’ for Nottingham Forest loanee Djed Spence ahead of a potential transfer, according to Sky Sports.
Spence is currently on loan at Forest from Middlesbrough, where he fell out of favour under previous manager Neil Warnock at the start of the season.
The £10million-rated right-back impressed seriously during the club’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup earlier this month and has now been linked with a move, with both the Gunners and Leeds named as suitors [Sky Sports].
Sky Sports have gone one step further though, claiming that the Whites have ‘made an enquiry’ for the player amid a potential summer transfer.
Any deal would have to take place in the summer, with FIFA rules preventing Spence from playing for another club this season after appearing for both ‘Boro and Forest.
Is Djed Spence good enough to make an impact at Leeds United and play for them in the Premier League? Absolutely.
But that status as a Premier League club isn’t assured for next season and the club should be targeting signings for this month that can make an immediate impact.
Leeds got another win at the weekend, beating West Ham 3-2 at the London Stadium to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season and move nine points clear of the bottom three.
However bottom club Burnley have got three games in hand, which means the gap isn’t as big as it seems on paper currently.
If a deal could be done now then absolutely go for it, but as it stands the club should be prioritising improving the squad for now rather than planning ahead when the future isn’t certain.
