Leeds United have given Wilfried Gnonto permission to undergo a medical with Fiorentina.

However, not everything is as it seems.

Gnonto's game time at Elland Road has been limited over the last season, with the Italian hoping a move away can get him on the pitch more.

The Whites are reluctant to allow the winger to depart as they require another forward to come in and replace him.

Work is being done in order to secure a new signing, with Mykhailo Mudryk the current Leeds target for that role, but Gnonto may still stay despite his pending medical.

Why Leeds are allowing Wilfried Gnonto to travel to Italy

Gnonto will not join Fiorentina if Leeds fail to replace him this window.

However, Leeds are allowing him to travel for his medical even without a guarantee of a move going through with Fiorentina.

According to Sky Sports journalist, Zinny Boswell, that is because it would allow Gnonto to get his move over the line in time should the Whites land his replacement.

The Italian forward is expected to be in Italy later today, 31 August, ahead of his potential loan to the Florence-based side.

Now, Leeds will continue to seek a forward signing to ensure the journey and medical tests do not ultimately turn out pointless.

It may very well be a transfer that could go down to the wire, with it all depending on Leeds' business.

Have Leeds made any other attempts other than Mykhailo Mudryk?

Currently, Mykhailo Mudryk is the only name that has emerged as an option before the deadline.

However, it is known that the LS11 outfit do want to sign another striker to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.

Additionally, they would ideally want cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson at left wing-back.

Leeds fans could be in for a busy final two days of the transfer window.
