Kjell Scherpen could be set to return to the Premier League with Leeds United from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

The 26-year-old spent a few seasons at Brighton and Hove Albion before completing a permanent transfer to Belgium in the summer of 2025.

Having gone from strength to strength over the years, the six-foot-nine shot-stopper has now emerged as a target for the Whites.

The Elland Road hierarchy now want to sign Scherpen, who once made history in the Austrian Bundesliga.

During the 26-year-old's spell at Brighton, he spent two seasons on loan at Sturm Graz.

The Dutch goalkeeper had a magnificent start to life in Austria and the West Yorkshire outfit may have stumbled upon someone who could be their new number one.

What Kjell Sherpen did at Sturm Graz

Scherpen immediately became a key player for Sturm Graz after signing on loan from Brighton.

Despite an ACL injury ending his 2023-24 campaign prematurely, such was his impact at the Merkur-Arena that the Austrian club brought him back on a second temporary deal.

Scherpen made history in the Austrian Bundesliga when he became the first goalkeeper in history to not concede a goal in his first 412 minutes of league action as a debutant.

The Netherlands national kept a clean sheet in the opening four games for Sturm Graz in the 2023-24 campaign and it's a record that still stands.

Scherpen has since furthered his development at Union, featuring heavily in the Champions League.

How realistic is Kjell Scherpen deal at Leeds United?

MOT Leeds News have covered Leeds' interest in Scherpen, with Ipswich Town also in the race for him.

The Whites are in desperate need of goalkeeping reinforcements after Karl Darlow joined Manchester United as a free agent.

Illan Meslier has also signed for Arsenal after struggling at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke lost faith in Lucas Perri midway through last season and the Brazilian goalkeeper surely can't be trusted as the number one.

With reinforcements in between the sticks an evident priority for the West Yorkshire outfit, it looks like the West Yorkshire outfit will have their work cut out to sign Scherpen, who wants a move to Ipswich.

But, if Leeds make their move concrete, there's surely only one landing spot that Scherpen would want.
