Joel Piroe has passed his medical at West Ham United as he closes in on a move away from Leeds United.

Piroe, 27, has found himself out of favour at Elland Road since Leeds returned to the Premier League and a drop back into the Championship is now on the horizon as he goes through the formalities of joining the Hammers.

West Ham have agreed to pay £15m for Piroe after an initial loan, meaning that next year, the Whites could bag a £5m profit on the £10m they paid for him in August 2023.

Leeds are now said to be lining up a replacement for the Suriname international, who failed to score in the Premier League last season.

That's according to Macedonian journalist Filip Mishov, who interviewed Piroe in July. He reported on X on Tuesday that the ex-Swansea striker is joining West Ham on an initial loan with an obligation to be made permanent next year if the Londoners win promotion.

Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof adds that his medical has now been completed and all that's missing is for the striker to sign on the dotted line at the London Stadium.

Leeds' potential replacement for Joel Piroe

Leeds definitely need to bolster their strike force this summer because, despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin's impressive debut season in West Yorkshire, there's always a question mark in regards to his fitness.

Lukas Nmecha came up short last term and Piroe has unfortunately been identified as not being up to the task in the Premier League.

However, links between Leeds and signing a potential new striker signing have been few and far between, before Mishov reported on Tuesday that Piroe's exit is making room for a replacement.

Stuttgart striker Ermedin Demirovic is one option though, with the Yorkshire giants reportedly keeping tabs on Tarik Muharemovic's Bosnia & Herzegovina teammate.

How will Leeds spend Piroe money to improve on last season?

Signing Nico Elvedi will lift Leeds' transfer spend to over £80m this summer, but that's still gotten them the aforementioned Swiss centre-back, Harry Wilson, Muharemovic and James Trafford.

However, there's still work to be done.

A striker is definitely needed, but the left-hand side of the squad also needs improvement.

A back-up left-back for Gabriel Gudmundsson, a new left-winger and also someone who can shadow Trafford in goals.

That £15m from offloading Piroe isn't guaranteed, but Leeds will no doubt be banking on West Ham winning automatic promotion back to the Premier League - like everyone else is.
