Leeds United have now effectively signed off on Joel Piroe's move to West Ham United.

Piroe emerged as a target for West Ham on Sunday and, 24 hours later, a deal is said to have been agreed.

All that is left was for the Suriname international to undergo a medical with the Championship club.

That could now happen as soon as Monday evening amid a new update that has been shared.

But as Piroe prepares to wave goodbye to Leeds, Daniel Farke's side could be left with some regret.

And with two weeks of the window to go, another new striker may well be needed.

What's left to do for Joel Piroe's West Ham transfer?

West Ham are set to sign Piroe from Leeds on an initial loan basis with an obligation to buy.

Whether or not that obligation depends on West Ham being promoted back to the Premier League or not remains unclear.

In another update shared by Sky Sports via their transfer blog on Monday evening, it is reported Leeds have now given Piroe permission to undergo a medical.

The 27-year-old, who was hailed an "unbelievable finisher" by Farke in the past, is expected to travel to East London on Monday night.

Assuming no issues are flagged in the medical, Piroe will then be confirmed as a West Ham player.

All this poses one big question, though: Should Leeds really be signing off on Piroe's exit?

Why Leeds could live to regret Piroe exit

Piroe will depart with the best wishes of Leeds supporters when this exit is finalised.

He played a big part in the Whites getting back to the top tier, before then playing second fiddle throughout last season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was favoured up top and, to the surprise of many, stayed fit pretty much all season long.

However, that could so easily change. Should Calvert-Lewin be ruled out for any length of time, all of a sudden Farke's options look a little more limited.

Having Piroe there as a third choice has been handy, but that will no longer be the case.

And if a striker of similar quality is not recruited over the next few weeks, it may well be Leeds regret the call if the worse-case scenario happens with DCL.
