Jacob Zetterstrom bid miles away as Leeds United learn new clause at Derby
Leeds United are still on the lookout for a new number two goalkeeper, with Jacob Zetterstrom an option.
Things have gone quiet at Elland Road either side of the signing of Nico Elvedi in defence on Wednesday.
Daniel Farke has been busier clearing out the deadwood in his squad, with only two weeks left in the window.
Derby's Zetterstrom has been mentioned throughout the summer, with rival interest now growing in the Swede.
The issue Leeds have is that they've smashed their transfer record to sign James Trafford from Manchester City.
While brilliant news, it alters who they can probably sign as a number two.
Derby clause could halt Jacob Zetterstrom transfer
There are allsorts of clauses put into player contracts now.
And as Monza of Italy bid for Zetterstrom, that is coming to light within the media circles.
The Derby Telegraph have noted Leeds' interest in the Sweden international again on Wednesday.
The newspaper reports in its print edition that Monza's £2.1million bid is "miles away" from the true valuation.
What helps them, is that the Rams have a clause to extend Zetterstrom's contract by another year, but it must be triggered before May.
Considered "one of the best" outside the Premier League, it means he has two years on his current contract, effectively.
Will Jacob Zetterstrom sign for Leeds?
In short, no.
Zetterstrom is coming off a sensational season, where he ironically saved a penalty against Leeds in the FA Cup.
Starring with Sweden at the World Cup only enhanced that reputation, so anywhere he moves, he will want to be number one.
That is understandable, but it simply won't happen at Elland Road.
Trafford has smashed transfer and wage records in LS11, with the 49ers giving Farke his ultimate wish.
That basically means he will play every single week, in the Premier League and both cups, he has to.
Leeds have suffered goalkeeping hell for decades now, so it's refreshing to see them go all out like this.
It also means that whoever signs as number two, will likely be towards the end of their career and a homegrown talent.
That is the norm in the Premier League now.
