Ilia Gruev clearly done for at Leeds United as Shea Charles offer launched
Ilia Gruev is almost certain to be cast aside at Leeds United this summer.
Leeds will have their priorities for the transfer window, and among the list is likely to be a new striker and a new goalkeeper.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin aside, both of those areas are where the Whites struggled the most last season
However, as always with the summer window, Daniel Farke will not turn his nose up at the chance to bolster other areas of his squad.
As per the latest reports, the midfield seems to be a position in which that opportunity has emerged, with it claimed that Leeds have made a bid to sign Shea Charles.
And if that deal were to materialise into something more concrete, then it will be sure to have Gruev fearing for his future at Elland Road.
Where would Shea Charles fit at Leeds?
Charles showcased the different strengths that he has to his game last season at Southampton, and at both ends of the pitch.
At Leeds, that is a similar role to what Anton Stach has, though it's certain that the German won't be replaced this summer.
Instead, the Saints star is likely to be seen as someone to partner Ethan Ampadu and Stach, which has often been Gruev's role.
The Bulgarian made 23 appearances for the Whites in the Premier League last season, though there is every chance that those numbers drop to single digits if a new midfielder arrives this summer.
And with just one year left on his deal, Leeds may be tempted to cash in on him if the chance emerges.
How much would Charles cost this summer?
It has been reported that Leeds' bid for the Northern Ireland international is around the £20million mark.
However, the Saints are believed to be holding out for more.
Come the end of negotiations, if that is to happen, it's likely that Leeds would have to fork over £25m for the midfielder.
Like Gruev, Charles only has 12 months left on his contract with Southampton, which may play into the Whites' favour.
