Shea Charles is the latest of many to be linked with a move to Leeds United this summer.

With the World Cup starting, transfer murmors had gone somewhat quiet around Elland Road, but that has changed.

Charles recently tasted disappointment with Southampton, as they were expelled from the Championship play-offs days before the final.

That could open the door for exits at St Mary's, and Leeds are one of those to be lurking.

It is said that Charles could cost £20million, with the Whites considering an approach to kickstart their summer.

Daniel Farke is ready to make additions to his squad, with Paraag Marathe already promising added quality.

Do Leeds really want Shea Charles?

After the Daily Mail reported the initial interest, Leeds fans started to ask those closer to Elland Road for updates.

Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post has delivered, admitting that Leeds do admire the Northern Ireland international.

Charles was at the heart of everything positive for Southampton and his country last season, with a move more likely than another year of Championship action.

Smyth has reported that any interest has not surpassed their initial admiration in LS11.

Who could leave Leeds if Shea Charles is signed?

Midfield isn't exactly an area that screams for big money to be spent.

Farke is happy with his options, especially after Ethan Ampadu signed a new long-term contract.

That keeps the captain around alongside Anton Stach, Ao Tanaka, Sean Longstaff and Ilia Gruev.

It is Gruev who is now likely most at risk.

The Bulgarian is charactarised often as the weakest part of that group, and his injury that saw him miss a chunk of action at the end of last season works against him.

Gruev is expected to be fit again for pre-season, but the question could now be asked if that will be at Thorp Arch or elsewhere.

Leeds admire Charles, and regardless of whether that has progressed or not, the fact that they are making those checks prove they want another body in midfield.

Only time will tell if that is as added competition, or an upgrade replacement.
