How likely Leeds are to trigger add-ons for Jean-Matteo Bahoya permanent deal

Leeds United have the option to buy Jean-Matteo Bahoya after his loan spell from Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, it's reportedly "unlikely" that all the add-ons in the deal will be triggered, meaning that Leeds might not have to pay the full £25.7million fee that's been disclosed.

Bahoya, 21, is yet to appear in Leeds colours since his last-gasp move to Elland Road was announced after the Tuesday transfer deadline passed.

The France Under-21s international hadn't made an appearance for Frankfurt either this season, having been an unused substitute in their first two games of the campaign against St Tonis and Union Berlin.

It's been a rather muted start to the 2026-27 season for Bahoya, but hopes are high after his move to Leeds.

However, the same cannot be said about the add-ons in the deal that's taken the left-winger to Elland Road.

LeedsLive reported in the early hours of Wednesday morning that if Leeds trigger their option to buy Bahoyha permanently next summer, it'll cost them an initial fee of £21.4m.

It is understood that there are then add-ons that will be potentially worth £4.3m.

However, according to "club sources", there's doubt surrounding whether those add-ons will be met in full.

But what could those add-ons be that Leeds aren't confident of triggering?

As of right now, no reports go in depth about what the add-ons entail.

However, if Leeds aren't expecting them to be met, there could be a few crazy ones in there, like winning the Premier League, him winning the golden boot or scoring over 30 goals in a season.

They're the sort of things that you'd expect to be unrealistic and would make Leeds think they're not going to be triggered.

We've already seen one deal like this during the summer transfer window, which involved Leeds' bitter rivals Manchester United.

When they sold Toby Collyer to West Bromwich Albion for an initial fee of £3m.

However, the add-ons could take that fee to £7.6m, but one of them bizarrely requires the Baggies to qualify for European football.

The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell added that promotion to the Premier League will trigger an extra payment to Man United, which is less crazy, while another one says that if Collyer ever gets an England cap, another fee will be owed.

It's a surprise that unrealistic add-ons are thrown into a deal, especially when looking at the bigger picture, they're such low figures.
