How Leeds United still hold the cards for Zion Suzuki despite widespread interest

Published on

Leeds United remain the favourites to sign in-demand goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, despite new interest emerging from abroad.

Juventus are the latest side to have shown an interest in the Parma goalkeeper.

Leeds are prepared to offer £25.8million for Suzuki as they seek a new first-choice goalkeeper.

Karl Darlow is out of contract, Illan Meslier has departed and Lucas Perri has simply failed to live up to expectation last season.

Suzuki is now deliberating over his future following Japan's exit from the World Cup on Monday.

And while the interest in the shot-stopper is only growing, Leeds seemingly still hold all the cards.

It has already been reported that a number of other teams are also eager to sign Suzuki.

That includes Leeds' Premier League rivals Aston Villa, who may need to replace Emi Martinez.

According to Gianluigi Longari, an Italian journalist for Sport Italia who has over 127,000 followers on X, Juventus are also in for Suzuki.

Serie A giants Juve are said to have advanced their interest on Friday, but they are aware of the advantage Leeds hold in the pursuit of the goalkeeper.

Leeds are also said to be "ahead of the competition" for the 23-year-old, having now been tracking him for a while.

Why Leeds' Suzuki chase is now at critical stage

Leeds remain eager to keep hold of Darlow, having offered him a new contract.

Everton and Manchester United have done likewise, however, so the ball is very much in the Wales international's court.

In an ideal world, Leeds would have Suzuki as number one this coming season and Darlow as a more-than-capable back-up.

However, as things stand, Perri is the only keeper that Daniel Farke is able to call upon.

It is all well and good Leeds being ahead in the chase for Suzuki, but a deal needs to be struck soon.

Juve showing an interest is a concern, though Leeds do still supposedly hold an advantage and that has to now show for something concrete.
