Leeds United have confirmed that Isaac Schmidt has left Elland Road.

He joined the Whites in August 2024 from Swiss side St. Gallen, but the move did not pan out for either party.

He ultimately made 14 appearances for the Elland Road side after his £2.5 million switch from Switzerland.

Leeds' confirmation labelled it as an undisclosed fee on Thursday, but it is believed that they have recoup their spend on the full-back.

When he was on the pitch, his numbers were actually quite impressive, although that does not tell the full story.

What Leeds legacy has Isaac Schmidt left behind?

Schmidt featured sporadically in the Championship promotion winning campaign in 2024-25, before being loaned out to Werder Bremen last season.

As a result of his limited playing time for the LS11 side, he ranks second in two key metrics.

Per Opta statistician Jonny Cooper, he is behind just Josuha Guilavogui for the most Leeds league appearances without ever starting a match, with 12.

He also comes in behind the Frenchman for the most league appearances without losing, with 10 wins and two draws when he was on the pitch.

Why Schmidt's exit was the right call for Leeds

The stats are slightly skewed as that pair made no significant impact on the pitch, featuring for a total of 128 minutes combined for the Yorkshire club in the Championship.

It was the right decision to move on from both, Guilavogui at the end of that season, and the five-cap international now, it is as simple as that.

Leeds will not regret losing Schmidt, as he was simply not good enough for the second tier, never mind the top-flight.

The statistics revealed by Cooper may look good on the face of it, but they ultimately signal that he was not the answer.

He may well thrive in Switzerland, but that is probably his level, and Daniel Farke will be happy that he has move some deadwood on.

The Whites need to keep doing that, as well as bringing in top quality talent to bolster their squad and try to establish themselves as an elite side, rather than fighting against relegation.
