What an Isaac Schmidt exit means for Leeds United's payroll as medical complete
Isaac Schmidt looks set to end his time at Leeds United as his exit nears.
The Swiss defender joined the Whites in 2024, but only ever made 14 appearances for the English club.
He ultimately fell out of favour quite quickly with Daniel Farke in LS11 and, after just one season was already shipped out.
The 26-year-old spent last season out on loan at Werder Bremen, where he had hoped to kickstart his career.
But the Bundesliga side chose not to activate his buy option, sending him back to England.
Farke, though, has not had much time to wait for Schmidt to seal an exit as reports now have him set to leave the club on a permanent deal.
Who is Isaac Schmidt joining from Leeds?
MOT Leeds News have been reporting that Schmidt had options back in his home country Switzerland.
Both Basel and Young Boys had looked into a deal for the fullback, but it appears the latter have been the first to pounce.
Fabrizio Romano has shared that Leeds have sold Schmidt to Young Boys and that his medical has already been completed.
Now, you would expect only the media formalities to be completed before the deal is announced.
The move will officially put an end to Schmidt's Leeds career, in what has been far from what any associated party expected from his original arrival.
How much is Schmidt on at Leeds United?
No fee has been mentioned, so it is currently unknown the financial boost the transfer will provide for Leeds.
The Whites had originally paid £2.5m for his signature and that was the same price listed for his Werder Bremen option-to-buy.
So, you may expect that a similar price could be on the cards now.
However, while we await more information over the sale, we can look into what it frees up in terms of wages at Elland Road.
The fullback is currently on around £10,000 per week as per Capology, which equates to £520,000 per year.
While it may not seem to be much in the grand scheme of things, financial rules in the Premier League can often be quite strict.
So any boost in terms of getting an unwanted player officially off the books will undoubtedly be welcome this summer.
