How Gabriel Gudmundsson has outdone Pascal Struijk already at Leeds United after latest transfer admission
Gabriel Gudmundsson may have already proven he's more appreciative of Leeds United than Pascal Struijk.
The Whites enjoyed a thoroughly impressive first season at Elland Road from Gudmundsson, who has shown his ability in the Premier League.
The left-wing back has taken the momentum of his good first season in LS11 into the World Cup, where he also impressed for Sweden.
Unfortunately, his nation were knocked out of the competition by France in the Round of 32, but he can hold his head up high.
While he's been away, there have been rumours linking him to fellow Premier League side Chelsea.
However, Gudmundsson looks set to stay at Leeds after his recent comments away from West Yorkshire, as Struijk can take notes.
Gabriel Gudmundsson speaks out on Leeds exit rumours
Chelsea identified Gudmundsson as a target after Marc Cucurella completed his move to Real Madrid.
Xabi Alonso wants to sign a new left-back as soon as possible, but the Whites have yet to be contacted for their Swedish international.
Gudmundsson has already been asked about rumours linking him to a move to Stamford Bridge, but he remained coy, seemingly with his focus on the World Cup.
However, in a new interview with Swedish outlet Hallandsposten, the 27-year-old may have eased the minds of Leeds fans.
Gudmundsson said: "I haven’t had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now, so I have really zoned out from that part of football.
"But it’s nice that they see me as an alternative, and it’s a sign that something good has been done. Then we’ll see what happens, but I’m happy where I am.
"We are very happy with the choice and are looking forward to what is to come. Hand on heart, I can say that the Leeds fans are the best in England and they have supported us in a really good way this season."
Though Gudmundsson admits that links to Chelsea are validation of his good form, he's stated that he's happy with his current employers, and is alr
He also stated that people don't understand how big a club the Whites are until they have joined.
This is exactly why Struijk should look himself in the mirror.
Gudmundsson already six years ahead of Pascal Struijk with latest comments
Leeds stayed patient with Struijk for seven seasons only to see him move to a club in Brighton, who, give them their credit, have done well, but have been a feeder club for bigger sides in recent years.
The Whites have plans to challenge for glory and came close in the FA Cup last season, but Struijk believed a move to the Seagulls was better for his career.
It's only taken Gudmundsson one season to realise he's better off at Leeds rather than Chelsea.
The Swede clearly understands what he has in front of him more than Struijk did, as it will be interesting to see the trajectory of Leeds compared to Brighton now.
