Gabriel Gudmundsson: Everything Leeds United star has said about Chelsea transfer
Gabriel Gudmundsson has been linked with an exit from Leeds United, with Chelsea keen on a deal.
The Swede was arguably one of the best signings that Leeds United made last season, alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach.
His contributions at both ends of the pitch have been vital, especially ever since Daniel Farke switched to a back five.
However, that form in his debut campaign has ultimately come at a cost.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the former Lille star, who has been a regular for Sweden at this summer's World Cup.
And his comments on the transfer links will not spark too much optimism.
Gabriel Gudmundsson coy on Leeds exit talks
Leeds will now be well aware of the Premier League conveyor belt, which sees players shine for a newly-promoted club, before being prized away by someone higher up the food chain.
And with Gudmundsson, his potential exit could prove to be a case of that.
Chelsea lost Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid earlier in the window, much to the suprise of Xabi Alonso, leaving them in need of a new left-back.
And one that can contribute defensively and offensively just as Gudmundsson did for Leeds last season, with the Swede having spoken out on the rumours.
As per Fotbol Transfers, he said: "It is clear that it is a confirmation that you are doing something good, then of course all the focus is on the national team here, so that is all I can comment on.
"I've worked with [my agent] for 10 years, he knows that when I'm here I want to wear this shirt and focus on that. So that's what matters."
Leeds may already have ideal replacement lined up
Succession planning is key for success in the Premier League, and Leeds may need to showcase that this summer.
Daniel Svensson is a name to have been linked with a move to Elland Road, and he could be the perfect replacement for Gudmundsson should he leave.
The 24-year-old was a regular for Dortmund last season, grabbing two goals and assists in the Bundesliga across 33 appearances.
A deal may prove to be tricky with that in mind, though it's clear that he would be an excellent addition for the Whites.
Souffian El Karouani was also linked with a move to Elland Road on a free transfer, though he has since completed a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah.
